PRESS RELEASE: 09/07/08 - Incident at Eels v Panthers

The Parramatta Stadium Trust management has investigated the verbal racial abuse experienced by Petero Civoniceva at the Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

This unacceptable behaviour is not tolerated at this venue

On examining a variety of conflicting reports and statements, it appears that there was no positive identification of the perpetrators at the time of the incident. Although security officers made enquiries from the crowd in the area to which they were directed by Penrith training staff no one would identify the culprits.

Had the offenders been positively identified their removal with the aid of police would have been immediate.

Stadium management has subsequently worked closely with the Eels and other parties to identify the offenders. CCTV footage has since been obtained that corresponds to the Channel Nine footage giving a clearer picture of the patrons involved.

Consequent to this incident and other reports of offensive language (being directed at players, referees and others in the field of play as well as other patrons) further measures will be put in place to curb this wave of unacceptable conduct during what is considered to be a 'family event'.

The strategy may include using covert security officers in the crowd to positively identify perpetrators who will be independent witnesses in prosecuting offenders.

Luke Coleman, Venue Manager stated that "patrons at Parramatta Stadium are put on notice that any person identified as reponsible for using offensive and abusive language will be prosecuted.

In addition, I do not accept that other patrons, particularly children, should be subjected to this behaviour, and as a society we cannot permit offensive language used in this manner to be accepted as normal behaviour at a sporting event."

The Parramatta Stadium Trust management has already taken measures in 2008 to control alcohol consumption at the venue during events by reducing the limit of each purchase from four drinks to two in order to assist in reducing alcohol related anti-social behaviour.

All patrons at Parramatta Stadium are encouraged to report anti-social behaviour to police and security or event staff.

PRESS RELEASE: 19/6/08 - Ray Price Sculpture Commissioned

The Parramatta Stadium Trust is pleased to announce that sculptor Brett 'Mon' Garling, F.A.I.H.A. (Fellow of the Australian Institute of History and Arts) has been selected to undertake the commission of producing a bronze sculpture of Ray Price that is to be erected at Parramatta Stadium.

A multi award winning artist, 'Mon' has been included in the publication 'Top Ten Australian Artists' (2005). He is widely recognised and regarded as an expert in the field of sculpture and casting and a fascination in the technical side of casting has led him to establish his own foundry.

Being a Paramatta Eels fan since he was a child, Brett  has a passion for the project as he remarked: 'Ray Price had a profound influence over my young years, and to pay tribute to this man by having the oppurtunity to sculpt him in this memorable pose is a great honour'.

The pose that Ray Price has selected is taken from the photo of Ray Price holding up the 1986 Winfield Cup, won in the grand final by the Eels team that he captained that year. Ray Price was also a 'dual international', playing both Rugby Union and Rugby League for Australia.

The sculpture will serve as a tribute to this legendary sportsman and his sporting achievements.

It is anticipated that the sculpture will be erected and unveiled later this year, which is fitting for the year of the Centenary of Rugby League in Australia, and the Rugby League World Cup.

PRESS RELEASE: 10/11/06 - PARRAMATTA STADIUM AND SYDNEY WATER - LEADING THE WAY IN WATER CONSERVATION

Parramatta Stadium is continuing to work closely with its valued partner Sydney Water to set high standards in maximising water conservation and management. By working together the partnership has set new environmental standards and enabled the Stadium to score goals on water saving through the implementation of two key water saving initiatives:

1. INSTALLATION OF RAINWATER TANKS

Parramatta Stadium has installed a drainage system and two 150,000 litre tanks to store rainwater captured from the roof area over the Stadium’s eastern grandstand. The tanks are connected to a pump and a meter for monitoring.
The Stadium has also installed four 20,000 litre tanks to capture rainwater runoff from the Stadium’s maintenance buildings to use for cleaning grass cutting machinery and other equipment. The Stadium is looking to install similar technology to capture rainwater runoff from the western roof area in a bid to become fully water efficient and sustainable.

“These water tanks when managed efficiently can make a considerable savings in everyday practices” said, David Hinkley, Grounds and Maintenance Manager for Parramatta Stadium.

Funding from Sydney Water’s Water Conservation Subsidy - Pilot Fund has provided the Stadium with an opportunity to save more than 50 kilolitres of water per day. Money received from the Fund will subsidise every kilolitre that the Stadium saves over the next 10 years.

 2. MONITORING WATER USAGE

Parramatta Stadium’s permanent water monitoring program has resulted in a reduction in water usage of over 50%.
Under the Every Drop Counts (EDC) Business Program, Sydney Water engaged the services of National Project Consultants (NPC). NPC monitored the Stadium’s main water meter and identified leakage on the main water supply to the irrigation system make up tank. By locating and fixing the problem water usage was reduced from an average of 150 kilolitres per day to 80 kilolitres per day – an extremely significant saving.

“ Sydney Water’s EDC Business Program is a valued partner to Parramatta Stadium. It has been the key to our water savings,” said Luke Coleman, Venue Manager at Parramatta Stadium . “We look forward to continued development of our water conservation programme with Sydney Water.”
